Founded by the FIA, they unite governments, sports bodies, and tech giants to protect athletes, officials, journalists and fans. Through pioneering research, powerful advocacy, and cutting-edge education initiatives they’re ensuring sport remains a safe, inclusive, and respectful space for all.
Explaining the ‘UAOA Campaign’
The United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) campaign is an award-winning collaborative mission between sporting organizations, national governments, regulatory institutions, and technology platforms united as a global coalition to research and tackle online harms within the sport ecosystem.
Founded in 2023 by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, supported by the FIA Foundation and the European Commission, UAOA is committed to creating a safer and more inclusive environment for competitors, officials, volunteers, industry professionals, entourages, and fans by fostering regulatory and behavioural change.
The foundation of this mission is guided by three pillars:
‘Stronger Together’ - Success is dependent on a united ecosystem and our partnership provides a powerful and consistent presence.
‘Evidence-Based’ - We will provide a platform for knowledge sharing, education and prevention supported by the implementation of six fully-funded master’s programmes by the FIA Foundation.
‘Committed to Action’ - This international coalition will facilitate stakeholder engagement while creating safeguarding frameworks to support prosecutions and victim aftercare.
By implementing these principles, we adopt an approach that will be sustained, committed and far-reaching across the industry as UAOA develops into a leading and definitive voice in the fight against online abuse in sport.

Developing a ‘Pan-EU Framework’ to Combat Online Abuse in Sport
The European Union has awarded the FIA and UAOA campaign funding under the Erasmus+ Programme, acknowledging the campaign’s global leadership in combatting online abuse in sport. UAOA will lead a transformative project to deliver a ‘Pan-EU Framework to Combat Online Abuse in Sport’, utilising the FIA and its National Federations to pilot the model.
Project highlights include conducting empirical studies at a national level in native languages, developing educational tools, enhancing organisational expertise through critical incident frameworks, and launching the first EU-wide campaign.
