Olympic announcement – 5 ARISF sports are officially in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games

The 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session held in Mumbai, India has approved five additional sports – cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse and squash – for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games Sport Programme.
All five Sports which will be included in the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 sports program are ARISF Members and ARISF, the organization assembling 42 International Federations recognized by the International Olympic Committee, is proud of actively contributing to achieving the objectives of the Olympic Agenda 2020 + 5.

These five new sports reflect the American sports culture and will showcase iconic American sports.
Baseball has been in the Olympics six times and softball five times and they are now back on the Olympic program for Los Angeles 2028, Cricket is set return to the program for the first time since Paris 1900 under the T20 format, and its return has symbolically been secured in India. Lacrosse is due to be played under the sixes format for its third appearance after St Louis 1904 and London 1908. Flag football, a five-player-a-side version of American football, and squash have both secured debuts on the Olympic program. The four team sports have each been proposed for six-team men’s and women’s tournaments.

The International Olympic Committee Session has also approved the full membership of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and its rubber-stamping comes when its flag football discipline has been approved by the IOC Session for inclusion at Los Angeles 2028 which would mark its Olympic debut.

The ARISF President Raffaele Chiulli said at the IOC Session in Mumbai: “This is an historical moment. The hopes and dreams of millions of athletes around the world have now become reality. The decision will certainly bring a younger and more innovative feeling to the Olympic program. On behalf of the ARISF family I would like to express our sincere thanks to the IOC and Los Angeles 2028 in making this possible”.
